Electricity Interruptions & Disconnections

Your electricity supply may be disrupted for various reasons.

Discontinuation of supply

Utilinova will make reasonable efforts to provide advance notice of a potential electricity supply discontinuation.

This notice may be conveyed through the monthly invoice, telephonic communication, electronic notification, or a specific written notice delivered to the premises.

Utilinova reserves the right to discontinue electricity supply for the following reasons:

  1. Absence of a valid agreement with Utilinova for electricity and/or water supply
  2. Lack of a deposit or insufficient deposit held as account security
  3. Incomplete/unsigned agreement or the inclusion of false information
  4. Account arrears
  5. Submission of false and/or illegible proof of payments

IMPORTANT

Premises without a written agreement with Utilinova for electricity supply may face discontinuation without prior notice.

If electricity supply is disconnected for any of the above reasons, a reconnection fee, in addition to any outstanding payments, must be paid in full using any of our payment methods. Technical staff managing disconnections/reconnections will not accept these payments.

IMPORTANT

Please note that electricity services will not be reconnected after hours. Accounts in arrears must pay the total outstanding amount and a reconnection fee, as determined by Utilinova. Proof of payment must be sent to support@utilinova.co.za during office hours no later than 15:00 for same-day reconnection; otherwise, reconnection will occur the following day.

General power failures

A widespread power outage in your area may occur. Confirm by checking with local businesses and residents in your neighbourhood to determine if their electricity supply is also affected. Non-functional traffic lights can be indicative. Utilinova cannot resolve such issues; contact the City Council for further information: City of Tshwane

Local power failures

If only your complex/building experiences an electricity supply interruption, contact Utilinova at Tel 012 665 1663/1198. Our technicians will address the problem promptly.

Other reasons

Maintenance issues could cause an interruption in your unit’s electricity supply. Before contacting Utilinova, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off all circuit breakers and trip switches in the distribution board within your premises.
  2. Activate the earth-leakage trip switch (up position).
  3. Turn on the main supply circuit breaker (up position).
  4. Gradually turn on the remaining circuit breakers (up position).

IMPORTANT

If any switch "trips" during this process, it indicates a fault within your premises. Contact your local electrician.
